The Ultimate Bond Recovery Checklist: Move Out With Confidence

The Ultimate Bond Recovery Checklist: Move Out With Confidence

Moving out of a rental? Let’s talk bonds and more importantly, how to get yours back without the stress. At Smoover mover, we’ve helped hundreds of renters transition to their next chapter, and we know just how important that bond refund is. Whether you’re upgrading, downsizing, or simply moving across town, here’s the checklist that’ll help you leave on a high note.

1. Give Proper Notice

Sounds obvious, but it’s a step people forget. Double-check your lease and give the required notice (usually 28 days). Keep all communication in writing, emails are your best friend here.

2. Book a Proper Clean

We’re not just talking a quick once-over. We’re talking bond-level cleaning. This usually includes:

- Oven and stovetop
- Inside cupboards and drawers
- Windows (inside and out)
- Walls, skirting boards, and light fittings
- Carpets professionally steam cleaned (keep the receipt!)

Tip: Some landlords require receipts for professional cleaning don’t risk your bond over a vacuum job.

3. Handle Repairs and Touch-Ups

Patch up any holes from hanging art or shelves. Replace broken light bulbs. If you’ve painted any walls, check your lease repainting to the original colour may be required. It’s the little things that get flagged in inspections.

4. Take Photos of Everything

Before you leave, snap photos of each room clean, empty, and damage-free. This is your safety net in case of disputes. Take the same angles from your original condition report if you can.

5. Clear Out the Extras

That box of forgotten cables? The half-used cleaning spray under the sink? It all has to go. Landlords love to charge for “rubbish removal” fees don’t give them a reason.

6. Don’t Forget the Outdoor Areas

Balconies, courtyards, or garden spaces count too. Sweep, weed, and tidy up. If you had a pet, make sure there’s no trace left (including... you know what 🐶).

7. Complete the Exit Condition Report

This is crucial. Fill it out honestly, include your photos, and send a copy to your agent. The more thorough you are here, the smoother the process.

8. Book Your Move Early

And yes, this is where we come in. Booking your move early ensures you don’t overlap rent on two properties and gives you breathing space to get everything done properly.

Bonus: Smoover mover offers flexible moving options, Packing service,  perfect for quick pack-ups, big hauls, or even just getting that couch out the door.

9. Return Keys On Time

Don’t miss your deadline. Return all keys, garage remotes, and swipe cards. Late returns = more charges.
